THE HISTORY OF THE SHAKER CABINET
Shaker style cabinets have become increasingly popular in recent years. Its simplicity has made it a preferred style for those that favor a contemporary kitchen/bath as well as those that like a more traditional trend. Due to its attractiveness, it has become accepted as a classic and timeless style which most cabinet manufacturers and distributors offer.
To understand the philosophy behind the design we need to go back to the late 1700s. In the year 1770 an English woman, Ann Lee joined a sect of the Quakers known as the Shaking Quakers; (it was later shortened to Shakers.) Lee and the Shakers believe/d in a simple way of life and implemented it in everything they did; their dress, food, furniture among others. They did not create anything unless it was both necessary and useful. If it was necessary and useful then they agreed that you can make it beautiful. It is this for this reason that the shaker cabinet has earned its name; its beauty is in its simplicity.
THE BENEFIT AND BEAUTY OF THE SHAKER CABINET
The shaker kitchen cabinets focus on functionality and simplicity which gives it a clean and sophisticated look. It features a plain, raised square paneled door with sharp, square corners. There are no curves or intricate detail on the cabinet at all. The style is versatile in the sense that it can be used in both a traditional and contemporary kitchen. Picture a shaker cabinet with a warm wood stain and copper faucets and hardware. This kitchen will clearly portray a warm and traditional style kitchen. Now try to imagine white or black shaker cabinets with stainless appliances, faucets and hardware. Undoubtedly, the clean lines of the cabinets together with the stainless fixtures will exude a minimalistic atmosphere.
No matter what type of kitchen you are looking to create, be it contemporary, transitional or traditional, the shaker style cabinets may very well work for you.
